Universiade – international sports competitions among students under the egis of the International Student’s Sport Federation (FISU).

More than 50 years Universiade is considered as a second global representative and international event all over the world’s sports arena.

Students, postgraduates and graduates of previous Universiades aged from 17 to 28 are allowed to participate in the competitions.

Kazakhstan has been taking part in Universiade from 1993. During these years more than 700 athletes competed and 125 medals were won.

In November 29, 2011 International Students Sport Federation has assigned Almaty as the host city for 28th World winter Universiade in 2017. Kazakhstan is the first among former CIS countries to host winter Universiade.

It is estimated that 2000 athletes from 55 countries will attend the Winter Universiade competitions in Almaty. During the Universiade there will be involved 3000 volunteers, both from foreigner’s countries and local regions.

30 000 foreign guests and tourists are expected to come.

It is planned that the number of TV viewers will reach 1 billion.

Broadcasting will be available in 80 countries.
