Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts in the Great Lakes Region

On 21 March 2016, Delegation of Kazakhstan made a statement at the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on the theme “Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts in the Great Lakes Region”.
As a Member-Observer of the African Union, Kazakhstan recommended a more comprehensive regional strategy of the UN system together with the African Union, the European Union, and other African sub-regional organizations, with financial outlays by the IMF, World Bank, African Development Bank and donor countries.
In September 2015 Kazakhstan on its part signed with UNDP a cost-sharing agreement for a new project: “Africa-Kazakhstan Partnership for the SDGs” which focuses on technical support to 45 African countries, including of Great Lakes region.
Kazakhstan underlined its commitment to support progress in the Great Lakes Region and throughout this critically important African continent and called for full implementation of the recommendations of the Review of UN peacekeeping operations, the Peacebuilding Architecture Review, Resolution 1325, and most importantly, Agenda 2030 in the region.
