Ambassador’s Message

Welcome from Kairat Umarov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations

Dear guest,

It is a pleasure for me to welcome you to the home page of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations in New York. I hope you will find it interesting and useful.

Kazakhstan joined the United Nations family on 2 March 1992, and has since been able to integrate and take a proper place in the international community. Our country has made historic contributions in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation by voluntarily eliminating its nuclear arsenal, acceding to the NPT as a non-nuclear state and shutting down the former Semipalatinsk nuclear testing ground, thus ensuring global and regional stability. Kazakhstan’s initiatives on convening the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and the Congress of World and Traditional Religions, as well as active position on regional integration have deserved world recognition and greatly contributed to the cause of peace, security and economic prosperity of the countries of Eurasia.

Kazakhstan has long been an active proponent of strengthening the United Nations through reform. As a universal and influential organization, the United Nations must be the center for addressing key international issues and continue to play an indispensable coordinating role in all global affairs. The current world situation requires serious efforts to improve UN machinery and adapt it to new realities. To effectively address new challenges, Member States need a strong and efficient multilateral institution.

The reform of the United Nations must be comprehensive and encompass all its main organs. We believe that a greater role and a higher status of the United Nations General Assembly as the main deliberative, decision-making and representative body of the Organization will promote genuine democracy in international relations. The issue of enlargement of the Security Council should be resolved based on a broad international agreement in accordance with the principle of equitable geographical representation and taking into account the contribution of states concerned toward the development of the world economy and regional and global security.

Establishment of the Human Rights Council and Peace Building Commission, Democracy Fund and Central Emergency Revolving Fund prove our strong believe that community of nations will find solutions to the remaining issues of the reform and provide itself with the stronger and effective United Nations.

We look forward to seeing you again on our website. Should you feel that you need more information, please contact us.
