During the meeting the Head of the State introduced K. Abdrahmanov, a new Foreign Minister.
Along with that, the President of Kazakhstan announced the appointment of E. Idrissov as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom, and thanked him for his work at the post of the Ministry’s head.
Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasized that in the context of the crisis and the changing global situation the Foreign Ministry faces many new challenges requiring new approaches.
– On January 1 Kazakhstan will start to work in the UN Security Council. Being elected as a non-permanent member of that institution bears witness to the respect of the world community to our country. It is a demanding challenge that requires global leadership of Kazakhstan in the movement for nuclear-free world and other international issues, the Head of State said.
The President of Kazakhstan noted that in January our country hosts the 28th World Winter Universiade, to be attended by representatives of many countries.
In addition, Nursultan Nazarbayev made the point of the upcoming Astana EXPO-2017 trade show in June-September.
– Participation in the exhibition has been confirmed by representatives of 112 States and 18 international organizations. The event’s success depends on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ purposeful work, the Head of State said.
The President of Kazakhstan placed greater focus on the need for careful preparation for the coming talks on the Syrian agenda in Astana.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, as a crucial task, has identified forming-up maximum efficiency in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, taking into account our national interests.
– In the midst of the global economic crisis, the economic dimension should remain the systemic element of first priority in the activities of the country’s diplomatic service. It is necessary to deal with issues of attracting investments and export of domestic goods. In this regard, the work of the Foreign Ministry and embassies should be stepped up. It is critical to closely work on preparation of major international events that are scheduled in Astana next year; they are the SCO and the OIC Summits, the President said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev separately pointed to the need to strengthen the work of embassies in the part of implementing the adequate control for international trade economic agreements’ observance, drawing attention to the high responsibility of the Ministry employees, who represent our country abroad, and the significance of detailed study of employment issues related thereto.
In conclusion, the Head of the State noted a good level of foreign policy establishment’s activity, wishing a happy upcoming New Year.
